What We Do
The RCES PTA works all year long to a wide variety of programs, activities, staff support functions, outreach programs and more. Here is just a sampling of what we do and what your membership dues support.
Programs
- Organize the Spring Fair, Variety Show, monthly Family Nights and other fun community events
- Provide a Principal's Discretionary Fund
- Extra-curricular programs such as Mad Science, Adventures in Art, Chess Club, Group Piano, Drama Kids, and French and Spanish language classes, and more
- Sponsor Scholastic Book Fairs twice a year
- Enrichment events such as "Science Fair", and "Disability Awareness Week"
PTA-Supported Outreach Programs & Charities
- Sponsor a Linkages for Learning School in Wheaton Maryland. Last year, we were able to supply baskets of food at Thanksgiving and Holiday gifts.
- "Walk for the Homeless" for Gaithersburg Help
- Collect food to feed RCES families in need at Thanksgiving
- Collect toys and clothing gifts for the winter holidays
- Provide a scholarship fund to defray the costs of field trips for RCES students who are unable to pay
- Our very active Hospitality Committee sends food, flowers, balloons and more to people in our school community who have recently experienced a loss of loved one or have themselves needed some extra attention
Staff Support
- Working with children in the classrooms
- Serving as lunch and recess aides
- Staffing Field Day
- Photocopying, laminating, making bulletin boards, making posters and other administrative teacher tasks
- Assisting the school nurse and librarian
- Staffing an evening copy service for teachers
- Teacher Appreciation events
Physical Plant Support
- Beautifying and maintaining our courtyard
- Planning, purchasing and installing all new playground equipment
- New items for the media center
- New area rugs for all Kindergarten and Grade 1 classrooms
- Maps for Grade 4-5 classrooms
- ELMO presentation equipment for each grade level
- Travelling Netbook carts so that more students will be able to learn and use technology in the classroom
