> Mr. Chep met with us to discuss a few things in conjunction with the Room Parents.
>
> First he thanked us all - he appreciates your time and efforts and the teachers do as well.
>
> Next he discussed the collection of money.  The school district has procedures for collecting funds - typically all monies collected would go through the school secretary.  That is just not feasible in the case of the class parties.  He did ask that we follow these guidelines:
>
>
> Please limit the amount of money asked for to $5 - the parties should not be a financial burden to anyone.
>
> Please handle the parties separately - ask for money for the Halloween party in October and then wait to ask for money for the Valentine's party in January/February.
>
> There are 2 official parties during the school year: the Halloween Party and the Valentine's Party.  In the last School Improvement Meeting, a vote was taken and a small end of year party is also acceptable.  (Note:  The 1st graders and 5th graders have end of year events that are handled by the teachers and money collected for those events go through the school - not the room parents.)
>
> Let the teachers know how they can help - if you need it at your party.  Make sure you are communicating with the teacher - make sure they know what the plan is and that it works for them.
>
> Lastly - the number one priority is teaching.  Please do not interfere with "classroom time" by putting decorations on the Promethean boards or in areas that would make it difficult for the teacher to teach.  The teachers appreciate all you do and would hate to take down decorations that you put up, but were causing problems in the classroom.  Also - make sure you check with teacher to find out when would be best to set up for parties and then stick to that decision (for example, if the teacher asks you to come in 20 minutes before the party - don't come in an hour early - it may mess up their scheduled lessons).
>
> Some of the other items discussed:
>
> It is perfectly acceptable to ask for donations of items, rather than money for the class parties - in fact some teachers prefer that.
>
> How you handle collection for gifts for the teachers is up to you and it is up to you whether you want to do class gifts or not.
>
> Sharing of the class email list was also discussed - some parents have opted out of the school directory and may not want their e-mail address (or other information shared with others).  You will need to get permission to share your e-mail addresses with the whole class.
